This course is specifically developed to help certified home energy raters (HERS Raters) and students wishing to become certified HERS raters understand the basics about energy mortgages and energy responsive loans. There will be questions on the RESNET National HERS Raters Test that focus on energy mortgages and energy responsive loans. Guidance is provided in this course regarding how and where to find and learn what is required to pass the national test.

Energy mortgages provide a valuable option to access private sector capital and funding that other residential energy professionals, such as energy auditors, do not have. As you learn about how energy mortgages operate and how they differ from other mortgage products, you will also find that energy mortgages are continuously evolving and changing.

Understanding the basics of energy mortgages from taking this course will provide a good foundation that a rater can use to derive the benefits and requirements put forth from the different secondary energy mortgage market programs.
